The Menopause Edit
Hot flashes, night sweats, and treatment-induced heat. Here are products and clothing that actually help.
It seems like everyone is talking about menopause and perimenopause lately (finally). But treatment-induced hot flashes are a special kind of torture. Here are our suggestions for products and clothing that will actually make you feel comfortable (for a change).
Clothing
Linen is quite literally made for hot flashes. It breathes, it adapts to your body temperature, and it gets softer every time you wash it. This set — button-front top, elastic-waist shorts, functional pockets — works 365 days a year, no matter the temp.
The key to surviving hot flashes is layering — so you can add and remove without starting from scratch. This cardigan is a perfect top layer. The pointelle knit lets air flow through when you need it, while the crew neck and button front keep it polished enough to wear anywhere. Great basic colors, sizes XS–XL including petite and plus.
For those of us who’ve had breast surgery, heat sensitivity is compounded. This pocketed cotton camisole — step-in ease, adjustable straps — was designed for post-surgery comfort, but works well beyond that as a layer. Wear it flat or with forms.
Products
Ionic+ silver yarn woven into the fabric — the kind of thing that sounds overengineered until you wake up drenched and realize your regular sheets are the problem. Cooling, breathable, friendly for sensitive skin.
Menopause accelerates muscle loss and bone density decline. Strength training fights both. This beginner kit — yellow, red, green bands in progressive resistance, non-latex — is inexpensive, portable, and effective.
Hot flash doesn’t seem like a strong enough name for the internal bonfire that is menopause. Keep this towel in your bag, or better yet, your fridge. Wet it, drape it around your neck, get back to your life. UPF 50+ protection means it works outdoors too.
